Chief James H. Butler

 
     
 

Chief James H. Butler, retired  as the Chief of the Coral Gables, Florida Police Department with more than  40 years of law enforcement experience. Chief Butler started with Coral Gables police in 1968 and rose through the ranks to retire as the Chief in 1997.

In 1994 while Chief, he started a local task force (City of Miami, Miami Beach and Fl. Dept. of Law Enforcement) investigating money laundering and narcotics. (South Florida Money Laundering Strike Force)  It became part of HIDTA and worked closely with the Dept. of Justice, D.E.A., F.B.I. and IRS.

Chief Butler established Strike Force relationships throughout most major city and states along with international relationships with England, Switzerland, Canada, Germany, France, Venezuela and Colombia.  Butler became the Director of the Strike Force in 1997 and retired again in 2007. During his tenure he supervised, managed and directed major investigations of money laundering, narcotics, drug smuggling, organized crime, financial crimes, robberies and firearms violations. James Butler is skilled in dealing with officials at local ,state , national and international level. He is recognized as a highly motivated and innovative leader with excellent networking skills.

While working in the private sector he has supervised difficult surveillance, investigation and dignitary protection.  Chief Butler has an in depth knowledge of investigation techniques in the areas of  financial fraud, white collar insurance fraud,  due diligence, asset location and recovery, and health care fraud.

Chief Butler graduated from Florida International University with a BS degree and post graduate studies at University of Virginia. He is also a graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy , session 161.  He has also graduated from the United States  Secret Service Academy for Dignitary protection. Chief Butler has served as a  past president of Dade County Association Chiefs of Police, a member of International Association Chiefs of Police. Throughout his career he has attended over 2500 hours of specialized training at local - state -  and federal levels.
